Enlisted for three years on 20 Dec 1861 at Janesville, Rock County, Wisconsin. Mustered 26 Dec 1861 at Janesville. Volunteer recruit. Private. Died of chronic diarrhea on 4 Jan 1863 in the Regimental Hospital at Fort Henry, Tennessee.
