WI 42nd Inf Co A. Residence: Scandinavia, Waupaca County, Wisconsin. Born Gjert Hermansen Øvrenæs on 26 Feb 1825 at Holt, Aust Agder, Norway, son of Herman Eriksen and Ellen Svendsdatter. He came to America on the brig Juno, which sailed from Arendal, Aust Agder, 4 Jul 1849 and arrived in New York on 18 Aug 1849. He came to the Winchester settlement, Winnebago County, Wisconsin, and later moved to Iola Township, Waupaca County. He was married to Ragnild Christiansdatter Øvrebøen (1836-?). Four children. Civil War: Farmer. Age 38. Married. Gray eyes, black hair, dark complexion, 510. Enlisted for one year on 29 Aug 1864 at Waupaca, Wisconsin. Mustered 1 Sep 1864 at Madison, Wisconsin. Bounty $100.
