Regiment first sent to the frontier to protect settlers from the Sioux. In 1863, the regiment was sent to Columbus, Kentucky, and into the Siege of Vicksburg. At his mustering out, his company commander wrote that he Joined the company at the organization at La Crosse Wis and has been with the co every day since that time in all the Skirmishes and Battles which the Regiment has been engaged in, has never lost any duty by Sickness. He has been a good and faithful soldier, true to his country and the cause he fought for. He was born in Norway and enlists immediately after emigrating. Post war: He homesteaded a farm on which he platted a village, now known as Ettrick. He there married Mary Nelson. Five children. Peterson died 29 Sep 1914. Was with the provisions transport from Stevenson, Alabama, in October 1863. Taken prisoner at New Hope Church, Georgia, on 27 May 1864, and died of scurvy in Andersonville Prison on 21 Sep 1864. He came to America in 1851 to Illinois. Married on 20 Dec 1852 to Ingeborg (Eliza) Gulbrandsdatter Rugland. Six children. Moved to Freeborn County, where his family was one of the first six Norwegian families to settle in Manchester Township. Civil War: Age 29. Ole was one of the organizers of Company K. Enlisted 1 Jan 1862. Mustered into service at Madison, Wisconsin, and commissioned First Lieutenant on 30 Jan 1862. Left sick 11 Jun 1862 and resigned from the army on 30 Aug 1862 under authority of General Halleck. Post war: He became a prominent farmer in Manchester Township, and was elected to the State Legislature in 1883. Died 31 May 1891 at his home. Buried in West Freeborn Church cemetery. They came to Jefferson County, Wisconsin, and moved about 1854 to Martell Township, Pierce County, Wisconsin. Civil War: Age 26. Unmarried. Farmer. Blue eyes, brown hair, dark complexion, 510. Enlisted for three years on 15 Aug 1862 at Martell. Mustered 21 Oct 1862 at Madison, Wisconsin. Private. Discharged for disability on 27 Apr 1865 at Louisville, Kentucky.
