Children's Theatre Programs
The 6th Annual Nordic Fest Theatre Production
For a brochure and registration form
In this unique and fun theatre workshop, participants ages 9 to 12 will work with Kristen Underwood, director of Upstart Crow Theatreworks in Decorah, to create an original theatre piece inspired by stories of a handful of Norwegian-Americans, untrained as artists, who were seized with the need to create and produced remarkable pieces of art. Students will study these works of art, and then, through research and imagination, bring to life the stories of love, grief, fervor and joy that inspired them.
Each day includes theatre games, ensemble-building exercises, and improvisation. The resulting play will be presented during Nordic Fest at Vesterheim’s Bethania Lutheran Church.
Workshop dates and times will be Monday-Friday, July 14-25, 9 a.m.-noon. Performances are July 25 and 26. Cost for the program is $125, which includes materials and snacks. A $50 deposit is required at the time of registation. Scholarships may be available.
Underwood has been a theatre professional for over 20 years. She earned her bachelor
of fine arts degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder and her
master of fine arts degree from San Francisco’s American Conservatory
Theatre. As an actor, director, and teacher, Underwood has been involved
in well over 100 productions for theatres throughout the country. Upstart
Crow Theatreworks was founded in Decorah, Iowa, in 2002, offering theatre
education and performance opportunities for students of all ages.
