Free Thursdays

Vesterheim announces Free Thursdays, sponsored by Decorah Bank & Trust Co. The museum will be open until 8:00 p.m. with free admission all day. At least once each month there will be a special event. Check back regularly for a schedule. And don’t forget to check out the “Free Thursdays” specials at the museum stores.

Storage Facilities Tour
From 1:00 to 3:00 p.m.
Only a fraction of Vesterheim’s remarkable collections are on public display at any one time. Come for a guided tour to see the rest.

The tour will begin at 1:00 p.m. in the Westby-Torgerson Education Center at 502 W. Water St., and will continue until 3:00 p.m. Participants may gather 15 minutes early.

“Vesterheim’s curators will guide you behind the scenes through the museum’s extensive storage facilities, and you will learn how these objects benefit hundreds of researchers, folk artists, and the general public,” Griesheimer said. The museum’s collections include 24,000 objects, with large samplings from the fine, decorative, and folk arts.

Folk Art Demonstrations

See folk artists demonstrate their craft in the inspiring atmosphere of the Vesterheim Benefit Auction display, which includes pieces by the most prominent contemporary artists working in the Norwegian folk arts of rosemaling, woodworking, fiber arts, and knifemaking at the Vesterheim Benefit Auction display.

Opening Reception for the exhibition The Norwegian Art and Craft Club of Brooklyn, 1938-1956

The Norwegian Art and Craft Club offered classes and exhibitions of both fine art and fine craft for amature and sem-pro artists. The exhibition will include artwork by club members, primarily oil paintings, but also sketches, rosemaling, weaving, and ceramics. The exhibit is sponsored by Robert and Evy Alsaker in honor of A. Norman and Eldrid Skjold Arntzen.
