Once again Vesterheim's Benefit Auction was a fun and successful event. The auction included pieces by the most prominent contemporary artists working in the Norwegian folk arts of rosemaling, woodworking, fiber arts, and knifemaking. Vesterheim is enormously grateful to the artists who so generously contributed pieces. The live auction was hosted by Tom Overlie, television news anchor from KTTC, Rochester, Minnesota, and Sweeney Auction Service of Waukon, Iowa, was the auctioneer. During the auction, an extensive and delicious dessert selection was presented by Vesterheim’s hospitality committee. Vesterheim appreciates that Tom Overlie and Sweeney Auction Service, as well as our volunteer bakers, donated their services to make this a lively evening.

Proceeds from this year’s benefit auction will support projects directly related to the education program at Vesterheim. A portion of the proceeds will be split equally for funds associated with the folk arts: rosemaling, fiber arts, woodworking, and knifemaking. The remaining portion of the proceeds will be used to design and create a “virtual portfolio” of Vesterheim Gold Medalists in the four areas. This virtual portfolio will become part of Vesterheim’s website, and will continue to be updated as more artists earn Gold Medals.
