Children's Summer Program

Summertime Fun at the Farm

For a brochure and registration form

Vesterheim Museum invites youth ages 9 to 12 to step back into time and experience life as a child of the late-nineteenth and early-twentieth centuries. This active learning camp will take place at the museum’s historic Jacobson Farmstead, located six miles outside of Decorah. Participants will enjoy a fun mix of work and play activities, just like children from over a century ago. Hands-on activities will include apple pressing, candle making, weaving, games, dancing, and making traditional Norwegian and American foods, like krumkake and ice cream.

Program dates and times will be July 7-11, 9 a.m.-noon. Cost for the program is $85, which includes all materials and snacks. Participants will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the farm. Carpooling is recommended. A $50 deposit is required at the time of registation. Scholarships may be available.

Rebecca Smith will be the instructor for the Summertime Fun at the Farm program. Rebecca received her B.S. in elementary education from Western Illinois University, and currently holds an endorsement to teach kindergarten through eighth grade. She has taught at parochial and public schools in the area for many years. Primarily an elementary classroom teacher, Rebecca has eight years of experience as an art and Talented and Gifted (TAG) teacher.
