Elderhostel
Vesterheim Elderhostels scheduled for 2008:
September 28-October 3
Elderhostel is a national program for people age 55 and older. It provides a learning vacation with housing, food, educational experiences, and relaxation as a package. Elderhostel programs are offered both here in the states as well as many international programs. Vesterheim offers the Elderhostel program, The Migration of a Norwegian Tradition.
The Migration of a Norwegian Tradition is a very successful program about the Norwegian-American experience. There are lectures, hands-on folk-art classes, cooking experiences, and behind-the-scenes opportunities within the museum. Relive the stirring saga of Norwegian immigrants and celebrate their rich legacy.
This program is offered in the spring and in the fall each year. For more information, contact Vesterheim or call Elderhostel directly at 1-877-426-8056. Registration for all Elderhostels is completed on the national Elderhostel website at www.elderhostel.org.
Individuals within a driving distance may register as day students if there is space. To register as a day student, contact Vesterheim directly.
Comments from participants indicate that Vesterheim’s Elderhostels provide an excellent way of preparing for a trip to Norway, for understanding more about one’s own culture. People from all heritages attend the Elderhostel and comment on how it has enriched their understanding of the lives of all immigrants.
