National Norwegian-American Folk Art Exhibition
On view June 21 - July 27, 2019
What’s happening today in the world of Norwegian-inspired folk art?
Find out at The National Norwegian-American Folk Art Exhibition, a collection of amazing work by fantastic contemporary artists from all over the country, open at Vesterheim from June 21 through July 27.
The National Norwegian-American Folk Art Exhibition celebrates the past, present, and future of folk art by encouraging and inspiring emerging and established folk artists to develop their craft. Experts in knifemaking, metalworking, rosemaling, weaving, and woodworking offer feedback to artists on their work and award ribbons to the very best pieces in the exhibition. Artists who earn enough ribbons are awarded the Vesterheim Gold Medal. Museum visitors can also cast their vote for their favorite pieces throughout the run of the exhibition and buy pieces for sale during a silent auction over Nordic Fest, the last weekend in July.
Interested in participating in the exhibition by showing your artwork? The 2019 rule book is available here.
The exhibition is supported by the Iowa Arts Council, a division of the Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs; the National Endowment for the Arts; and Decorah Bank & Trust.
Congratulations to the 2018 ribbon winners and new Gold Medalists! A complete list is posted here.
