Peggy Larson has a Master’s Degree in Ethnomusicology from Bethel College and a BA in Vocal Music from Concordia College. She has had an extensive career in vocal and choral music. She lived in Europe for 26 years, mainly in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, where she was a jazz singer and jazz and world music choir director. She taught voice at the Rotterdam and Arnhem Conservatories of Music. She was known for her jazz singing and leading the vocal groups Tamam and Peggy’s Angels.

She and her husband moved back to Minnesota in 2000. Peggy taught at McNally Smith College of Music until 2015, when she retired. She leads the Earthtones women’s world music chorus and Portland Avenue Sanctuary Choir. She is also the cantor for the Meditative services at Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Saint Paul.

Peggy studied the vocal technique of Norwegian herding calls for her Master’s thesis. In 2007 she and her husband traveled to Norway and interviewed singers and farmers, visited the folk archives, and collected melodies and stories about kulokk. She has given performances, lectures, and workshops around Minnesota as well as at Mount Holyoke College (Massachusetts). Village Harmony (New Hampshire), and the Swedish Club (Washington), and in Amsterdam (NL). In 2017 she published the book on kulokk titled Sing ‘til the Cows Come Home.
