Update: Watch a recording of the show here!

Tune in to Viking.TV (www.viking.tv) on September 28 at 1:00 p.m. (CT) when Vesterheim presents the featured museum program of the week.

Viking.TV is a new digital platform from Viking, the leading small ship cruise line, and was launched to provide enriching cultural content and livestreaming video experiences from around the world. It is accessible on the internet and free to everyone. Each week, Viking.TV features live programs from a variety of experts, cultural partners, and notable individuals. On “Museum Mondays,” viewers can watch live and archived sessions with staff from museums around the world, providing virtual access to exhibitions and experts.

Vesterheim’s Museum Mondays program on Viking.TV will include behind-the-scenes video tours and a live Q&A with Vesterheim Chief Curator Laurann Gilbertson. The program will be archived and will remain available on the Viking.TV website.

Vesterheim has been given this online opportunity in part because it will be a destination option on Viking’s new Mississippi River cruises, which are planned to begin in 2022. “This Viking.TV program will be a great preview of what guests will experience when they visit Vesterheim and Decorah during a cruise,” Chris Johnson, Vesterheim CEO/President said. “We’re excited for this invitation to showcase the museum and its collections for new audiences everywhere,” he continued.

In appearing on Viking.TV, Vesterheim joins a long list of renowned cultural partners that have hosted programs on previous Mondays and that regularly welcome Viking guests on other cruise itineraries – including Oslo’s Viking Ship Museum, Oslo’s Munch Museum, The British Museum in London, and The State Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg.

On two of Viking’s Mississippi River itineraries – America’s Heartland and America’s Great River – guests will have the option to choose a “Privileged Access” day trip from La Crosse, Wisconsin, to Decorah to experience exclusive museum tours and enjoy lunch and shopping in the town.

“We are working closely with Viking to create the perfect experience for their guests, and we are so pleased to be a Viking destination,” Johnson said.

Viking was founded in 1997 and now offers scenic cruising on the rivers, oceans, and lakes of the world for discerning travelers with interests in science, history, culture, and cuisine. The brand proudly celebrates its Nordic heritage – from its Scandinavian-inspired ocean ships, which pay homage to Norse mythology and craftsmanship in their design and display one of the largest private collections of Nordic artwork on board, to its fleet of Viking Longships on the rivers of Europe that are named for Norse gods and heroes. The company currently operates a fleet of more than 70 state-of-the-art vessels and has received numerous accolades from industry experts and travelers alike. Viking was voted the #1 River Cruise Line by Condé Nast Traveler in the 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards, and for the fifth year in a row, has been named the #1 Ocean Cruise Line by Travel + Leisure readers in the 2020 World’s Best Awards.
