Jess Hirsch is a sculptor and craftsperson living in Minneapolis. Her craft focuses on sloyd, a Scandinavian handcraft, with an interest in greenwood working. Hirsch is the founder of Fireweed Community Woodshop, empowering women and non-binary woodworkers through the art of woodcraft. She has traveled to Sweden to study with Beth Moen and Stefan Norgaard through the American Scandinavian Foundation’s Craft Grant. She is the recipient of the Minnesota State Arts Board Folk and Traditional Art grant to study sloyd with Jim Sannerud. She loves to make spoons, bowls, and the occasional chair when she is not teaching.
