Lucy Tokheim is an artist/designer with potter Gene Tokheim at Tokheim Stoneware near Dawson, Minnesota, have been making wheel-thrown pottery and sculpture since 1973. They found their collaborative vision when they began visiting Vesterheim Museum, and furthered it at the Telemark Folk Art School in Rauland. These explorations set her on a life-long hunt for designs in wood, textiles, and Nordic culture. This powerful visual language continues to inspire Scandinavian contemporary designers and is a lodestone in her artistic life. Their collaborative ceramic work is well-known through the Upper Midwest and their gallery studio attracts thousands of visitors yearly.
Lucy continues to develop as an artist and designer. In 2022, she published her first comic book The Princess and the Boat Boy, Heroes of the Primstav. It is her retelling of the legend of St. Sunniva, the first patron saint of Norway. The Norwegian Primstav calendar also made its way into this entirely hand-drawn story.
