Martha’s work is inspired by a deep respect for pre-industrial hand craft and informed by generations of sewers in the family. From hand-stitched quilt blocks at age five to slapdash Victorian costumes cut from drapes at age 13 to now carefully studying the hand-stitched piquet edging on the cuff of a Slavic blouse, Martha endeavors to preserve the grace and utility of our forebears through the art of traditional clothes making.
