Rivojen

Open dates have been changed. Check back for new schedule!

Rivojen Jørn Magnus Langseth is a renowned artist from Nordland County, Norway, who creates traditional and contemporary works rooted in Sámi ornamentation, installations, and soundscapes. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Norway, France, and Japan. He has also served as an art consultant to museums and to the Sámi Parliament.

Rivojen is passionate about preserving Ume-Sámi heritage. Ume-Sámi is one of several languages of the indigenous Arctic people. Today, the language is spoken fluently by only a handful of people. Through the Ume-Sámi Resource Center in Hemnesberget, Rivojen helps educate the public about Ume-Sámi culture, history, language, and life.

The exhibit at Vesterheim includes drums, sheath knives, drinking cups, and reindeer milking bowls. It is presented with the cooperation of Sons of Norway District 5 and is made possible by generous gifts to the Vesterheim Annual Fund from the friends and family of Harley and Norma Refsal.
