Congratulations to Marcia McKelvey on her Retirement!

Director of Administration Marcia McKelvey retired from her 17 years of work at Vesterheim in October.

Marcia has worn many hats over the years and has been instrumental in the success of a number of initiatives, bringing her skills and perseverance to the work at hand.

To name a few major areas of work, Marcia has served as an important organizer and conduit of information to Vesterheim’s Board of Trustees, preparing meeting materials and organizing the logistical details. She has played a leadership role in upgrades to Vesterheim’s technology, working with contractors and vendors that support Vesterheim’s communications and technology systems campus-wide. And she has served as a major grant writer for the organization, which goes beyond writing to include fostering relationships with granting organizations and follow-up grant reporting. She was also instrumental in organizing and offering important staff trainings, like AED, CPR, child safety, Stop the Bleed, active shooter, and fire extinguisher use.

In more recent years, Marcia has played a key project management role in a number of capital projects at Vesterheim, including work on the Museum Building’s roof and brickwork, the landscaping project known today as Vesterheim Heritage Park, and, of course, the new Vesterheim Commons.  Her work on Heritage Park and the Commons projects involved coordinating closely with city officials, architects, engineers, contractors, trustees, and staff to ensure good communication, as well as tracking the progress of this work.

These and countless other things Marcia has done in service to the trustees, staff, volunteers, supporters, and visitors of Vesterheim.

Marcia said, “From Executive Assistant to Director of Administration, the job changed to encompass a broader spectrum of duties and responsibilities including grant writing, technology, and capital projects. I enjoyed the variety and had the pleasure of working alongside many wonderful and talented staff who I will miss.”

Vesterheim is extremely grateful for all of Marcia’s work over the years and wishes her happiness in retirement and success and fulfillment in all her future endeavors.
