Celebrate the winter holidays Norwegian-style during Barnetimen (Children’s Hour). Preschoolers and their caregivers are invited to connect online with Jennifer Kovarik, Vesterheim’s Youth Educator, to explore objects and stories in the museum’s collection and make art inspired by those objects.
A new video will be released on Tuesday, December 15, from 10-10:30 a.m. on Vesterheim’s website here or Facebook page. The video will be available for later viewing on Vesterheim’s YouTube channel.
This month’s theme will focus on Norwegian Christmas traditions. Explore these holiday traditions – how they might be the same as yours or different – with a tour of Vesterheim’s own Christmas tree. Then learn how to make a simple paper heart ornament that you can use to decorate your home or share with someone any time of the year.
Materials and instructions for the make-at-home heart basket projects are available here:
Print and decorate a cozy cap, mittens, and sweater with your favorite colors! Add texture and see what patterns you can make.

Barnetimen programs are geared toward 3 – 5 year olds, but all ages are welcome, and new programs are available online the third Tuesday of the month, September through April, at 10 a.m.
This program is sponsored by the United States Regional Arts Resilience Fund Phase 1, an initiative of Arts Midwest and its peer United States Regional Arts Organizations made possible by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation; with additional support from local sponsors David and Brenda Carlson and Norwegian Mutual Insurance Association.
