Family Book Walk: Seven Ways to Trick a Troll

Weekly, June 12-July 30

Location: Decorah-area Parks

This summer, get your family outside to explore Decorah’s beautiful parks and experience the joy of reading together! For seven weeks, in seven different parks, enjoy Lise Lunge-Larsen’s Seven Ways to Trick a Troll. As you read, your family will learn how the best things about being human (patience, kindness, courage, and quick thinking) are also what works against trolls! Taken from a wide range of historical and international sources, Seven Ways to Trick a Troll will delight and entertain imaginations of all ages.

Schedule:
Chapter 1 Little Goose, June 12-18, Phelp’s Park
Chapter 2 The Ashlad Who Stole the Troll’s Treasures, June 19-25, Phelp’s Park
Chapter 3 The Hen is Tripping in the Mountain, June 26-July 2, along Ice Cave Road
Chapter 4 The Boys Who Met Trolls in the Woods, July 3-9, along Ice Cave Road
Chapter 5 A Narrow Escape, July 10-16, Freeport Park
Chapter 6 The Troll Who Played Hide-and-Go-Seek, July 17-23, TBA
Chapter 7 Tor Out-Skis the Trolls, July 24-30, TBA

Each chapter is a stand-alone story, so you can enjoy no matter when you join in! Due to changing trail conditions, upcoming chapter locations will be announced closer to the week’s date. (Each new chapter will be available Monday afternoons through the next Sunday. Stories will not be available Monday mornings to make time for set up.)

Whether you hit the trail for one week or all seven, plan to take a family selfie by one of the story pages. Each family who brings a picture to Vesterheim Museum Store will receive a FREE copy of the book! (Limit one book per family.)

Your family can be any combination of folks as long as there’s at least one adult to help navigate the trail.

This series is offered in partnership with Decorah Parks & Recreation, the Decorah Community School District, and The Oneota Valley Literary Foundation.

Vesterheim’s outdoor youth programs are supported in part by a generous gift to the Vesterheim Annual Fund from the “All of Us” Research Program through the Gundersen Health System Foundation. For more information about this research, visit joinallofus.org/Gundersen.
