Popular Danish fiddler Kristian Bugge and accordionist Sonnich Lydom will take us on a journey through traditions of Danish folk music. These lively musicians perform old dance tunes and songs from every corner of their Scandinavian home country, including a few of their own compositions. Expect everything from wild polkas and jigs to lyrical waltzes, fiery reels, and happy hopsas. Plus, they will share exotic “Sønderhoning” dance tunes from the famous Island of Fanø and long forgotten songs from all over the country. The performance includes stories of the traditions from back home, how the musicians learned them, and how the music lives on today!
Both Kristian and Sonnich were among the first 12 musicians to receive the honorary title Danmarks Rigsspillemænd (National Danish Folk Musicians) in 2014. The musicians are also known from playing with the bands like Baltic Crossing, Habedekuk, Wenzell & Bugge, V. Poulsens Kapel, Jensen & Bugge, ULC, and Dronningens Livstykke.
If you are in Decorah, be sure the plan a meal at Lillördag Food Truck, which will be parked behind Vesterheim Commons and serving starting at 5:00 p.m. on October 11.
