Meet silver experts from the Sylvsmidja company in Voss, Norway, on March 4 at Vesterheim!
Anne-Kari Salbu, co-owner of Sylvsmidja, and Norwegian goldsmith Anders Fagerthun will be available in the Museum Store from 11:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. to talk with visitors about Sylvsmidja jewelry and demonstrate silver cleaning and care techniques. We’re so excited to welcome them back to Vesterheim! Their last visit was full of fantastic information and generous support.
Salbu can answer questions about traditional bunad silver styles, including the well-known sølje jewelry, as well as the history of Sylvsmidja and the ways that their work has evolved to meet current fashions and trends.
Visitors are invited to bring their own personal jewelry for Fagerthun to use as demonstration pieces on the best way to clean and care for it.
Sylvsmidja is Norway’s largest producer of silver pieces for Norwegian national dress (bunad). They have been crafting exquisite jewelry and accessories since 1940.
The Museum Store carries a wide selection of Sylvsmidja jewelry for sale. View it some of the pieces for sale here.
