Join Vesterheim for a sneak preview of the exhibition An Artist’s Journey: Carl Homstad, 50 Years. This online event includes a gallery talk by artist Carl Homstad and a live question and answer session. The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required here.

Born in Denver, Colorado, Carl Homstad attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. After graduating with a BA in art in 1973, he stayed in northeast Iowa. His journey as an artist, though, has taken him across the world while exploring media from carved woodcut prints to watercolor and oil paintings.

An Artist’s Journey: Carl Homstad, 50 Years highlights three passages. One is the journey of life, one is the journey of Homstad’s career as an artist, and one is the journey of journeys or the travels that have impacted his art.

Homstad is an award-winning artist who has exhibited in numerous juried and invitational shows. His work is in the permanent collections of several Midwest institutions, including Vesterheim. His murals are on walls in more than 30 communities, and he has also supervised more than 100 murals in public schools.

An Artist’s Journey: Carl Homstad, 50 Years will be open at Vesterheim from June 5, 2021 through May 30, 2022.

This exhibit is sponsored by William and Kathi Wild, Decorah Bank & Trust, and Anonymous, with additional support from Peggy Beatty, Brenda Carlson, Mary Jo Finholt, Barb Gavle, Melinda Hanson, Elea Jourdan, Kris Kratz, Elise Mullen, Linda Quaas, Leslie Sand, and Joann Voltmer.
