Religion and Norwegian-American Quilts

February 6, 2024 | 7:00 p.m.

Location: Online on Zoom

Join Vesterheim Chief Curator Laurann Gilbertson and the Northeast Iowa Quilters Guild for this fascinating presentation!

Can you imagine a time and place without quilts? It may be hard to believe, but few Norwegians in the nineteenth century had ever seen quilts. Immigrants to the United States needed quilts for warmth and to help their homes look more American. Quilts from Vesterheim’s Textile Collection tell the story of the immigrant experience between 1860 and 1940.

Everyone is invited and visitors wishing to attend can contact Arlene Klatt at 563-419-5641 or arlene.klatt@gmail.com to register for a Zoom link.

Questions? Contact Kim Toussaint, Associate Director of Development, at ktoussaint@vesterheim.org or 563-382-9681.

Vesterheim staff members can give presentations to cultural, community, and church groups on a variety of topics. Find more information about presentation options and how to schedule one for your group here.
