Vesterheim Bokprat (Book Group)

July 23, 2020 | 7:00-8:00 p.m.

Location: Online Zoom

Maren Johnson, Luther College’s Associate Professor of Nordic Studies and Torgerson Center for Nordic Studies Director, facilitates a monthly Bokprat inspired by Scandinavian authors and Scandinavian life.

Join this month for an evening discussion as we unpack Derek B. Miller’s crime novel, Norwegian By Night. The book follows Sheldon Horowitz, a Jewish New Yorker, as he settles into a new life in Norway with his granddaughter, following her marriage to a Norwegian citizen. Sheldon finds himself in the middle of a murder investigation, which forces him to engage in and with Norwegian society in ways he hadn’t anticipated.

This hour-long event will start with a brief discussion and background conversation on how the book addresses themes of immigration and integration, culture-clash, and inclusion. Please read the whole book prior to the event.
