Weaving Bewitchment: Gerhard Munthe’s Folk-Tale Tapestries

May 21, 2024 | 7:30 p.m. (CT)

Location: Online on Zoom with Marsteinen Lodge in Des Moines, Iowa

Join Marsteinen Sons of Norway Lodge in Des Moines, Iowa, and Vesterheim Chief Curator Laurann Gilbertson for this slide presentation that profiles Norwegian artist (landscape painter, muralist, book illustrator) Gerhard Munthe and his rocky road to tapestry design. Munthe was active at the time Norway was gaining independence from Sweden and his work was seen as being in a new “national” style. The tapestries woven from his designs became famous for the dramatic folk tales they depicted.

This is an online invitation and everyone is welcome. RSVP to Sue Givant at sgivant@hotmail.com for a link to join by Zoom.

Questions? Contact Kim Toussaint, Annual Giving & Membership Manager at ktoussaint@vesterheim.org or 563-382-9681.
