Collections Connection: Rosemaling in the Hallingdal Style with Pam Rucinski
In this recording, join Vesterheim Gold Medalist and long-time rosemaling instructor, Pam Rucinski, as she highlights Hallingdal-style rosemaling design throughout objects from the collection. Hallingdal is Pam’s first rosemaling love and still her favorite. Of all the rosemaling styles, it has the widest design range from symmetrical and geometric to asymmetrical or Rococo. And all with or without scrolls! She shares what it is about Hallingdal that still excites her, even after more than 40 years of painting and learning many other styles. Find out more about what she’s teaching at Vesterheim here.
Collection Connections is a series of Vesterheim-hosted conversations between the museum’s collections staff and folk-art school instructors. Highlighting the incredible folk-art collection at Vesterheim, these conversations are also opportunities for you to stay connected with your folk-art community. Each gathering will highlight a piece or two from the collection as explained, interpreted, and appreciated by a master folk artist.
