Folk Art Education Program Assistant

Vesterheim seeks a creative and talented person to be its Folk Art Program Assistant. This person will assist the Folk Art Education Specialist with the coordination of the museum’s Folk Art School, which has been offering classes in Norwegian folk arts for 50 years. The position is full-time (40hrs/week) and responsibilities include: data entry and management of class registrations, handling inquiries, communication and working directly with students and instructors, and serving as an on-site liaison for classes. Ideal candidates should be detail-oriented and have a high degree of comfort with technology and data management, possess exceptional communication skills—both in person and over the phone, and enjoy working with people of all ages. A strong appreciation of history, culture, and folk art is desired. Deadline for applications is December 15, 2016.

Project Archivist (temporary, one-year position)

Vesterheim seeks a skilled and knowledgeable professional for a temporary, 12-month Project Archivist position (January 2017 – December 2017). The project archivist will catalog several photographic collections in Nordic, the online archives catalog of Luther College and Vesterheim Museum (nordic.luther.edu). The project archivist will also assist with processing and cataloging incoming archival materials and will address access, housing, and condition issues in under-processed collections. In addition, the project archivist will help gather data and make recommendations for the future needs of the museum’s archives. This position will be a part of the Vesterheim’s Collections and Interpretation Department and will be under the supervision of the museum’s Registrar.

Website/Technology Specialist

Vesterheim seeks a fulltime (40 hrs/wk) Website/Technology Specialist to provide programming, upgrades, tracking, and maintenance for the museum’s website and furnish basic support for Vesterheim’s technology infrastructure, including servers, data networks, and computer workstations. Requirements: (minimum) Associate’s degree in computer science or a computer-related field, or two years of related experience; (preferred) a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or a computer-related field, and one year of related experience. Internship experience may be counted toward total work experience. Duties would include creating, upgrading, and maintaining programming for Vesterheim’s website and providing basic technical support for both PC and Apple platforms in the museum’s computer network, and the applications that run on those platforms.
