Collections Connection: Rosemaling in the Telemark Style with Nancy Schmidt

In this recording, join Vesterheim Gold Medalist and rosemaling instructor, Nancy Schmidt, as she highlights Telemark-style rosemaling design throughout objects from the collection. Nancy Schmidt graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater with a degree in art education and has worked in advertising design. She teaches rosemaling in the United States and has taught in Japan many times. Nancy is also a woodcarver who has studied acanthus carving with Hans Sandom and others. Find out more about what she’s teaching at Vesterheim here.

Collection Connections is a series of Vesterheim-hosted conversations between the museum’s collections staff and folk-art school instructors. Highlighting the incredible folk-art collection at Vesterheim, these conversations are also opportunities for you to stay connected with your folk-art community. Each gathering will highlight a piece or two from the collection as explained, interpreted, and appreciated by a master folk artist.
